This is a cosmetic procedure. Teeth whitening is done in discoloured teeth. It involves removal of stains from enamel to give a brighter shade. Discolouration of teeth may be due to

1. Intrinsic stains – tetracyclines, traumatic injuries, leaking restoration, aging .
2. Extrinsic stains- poor oral hygiene, excessive intake beverages like coffee and tea, smoking tobacco.
